Less than a week after Trinidad and Tobago confirmed its first case of monkeypox virus (Mpox), the Ministry of Health has identified a third case.
The latest case was confirmed by laboratory tests on Monday, the Ministry of Health said in a statement. The patient is a young adult male who has recently traveled.
The Ministry of Health said that the relevant county health officer (CMOH) is currently conducting an epidemiological investigation, and local public health responses have been activated.
The Mpox virus ranges from mild to severe and is spread through close contact or airborne droplets.
General signs and symptoms may include a rash or mucosal lesions that may last two to four weeks and be accompanied by fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, fatigue, and swollen lymph nodes. Anyone with these symptoms is advised to contact the nearest medical facility.
