Malaria is an insect-borne disease caused by infection with Plasmodium parasites through the bite of Anopheles mosquitoes or transfusions into the blood of plasmodium carriers.

On October 27, 2017, the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer published a preliminary list of carcinogens for reference, malaria (caused by infection with Plasmodium falciparum in highly endemic areas) in the list of Class 2A carcinogens.

There are four kinds of Plasmodium parasites that live in humans, namely Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium malariae, Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium ovalis. The disease is mainly manifested as periodic regular attacks, the whole body chills, fever, hyperhidrosis, long-term multiple attacks, can cause anemia and spleen enlargement.

The global prevalence of malaria remains high, with about 40 per cent of the world’s population living in malaria-endemic areas. Malaria remains the most serious disease on the continent.
